Pinax’s Path Forward: Our Agenda for 2024

Pinax By Apr 03, 2024 3 Comments
TL;DR: In 2024, Pinax plans to support new chains integrating with the network, enrich new data services, assist with the sunrise of decentralized data, and provide educational resources for web3 builders.

Pinax is gearing up for an ambitious 2024. We’re aiming to enhance The Graph and web3 developer ecosystem through innovation and support.

Our mission? To catalyze growth, streamline development, and enhance learning.

Find out what we’re planning:

  • To support new chains integrating with The Graph Network.
  • To launch new and advanced data services.
  • To support the sunrise of decentralized data on The Graph.
  • To expand educational resources for web3 builders.

Supporting current and future chains on The Graph

When The Graph Foundation launched the Chain Integration Process (CIP), a streamlined, community-driven method for adding new blockchains to The Graph Network, Pinax stepped up to support chains through the integration process.

We’ll continue to support new chains integrating with The Graph, allowing more developers and participants to join the ecosystem. By helping more chains onboard to the network, we will expand and drive forward the multi-chain, decentralized movement.

We’re also extending our infrastructure to support chains that are integrated with The Graph Network. This includes increasing the number of our RPC nodes across various blockchains to enhance the chain integration process and upgrade indexer capabilities.

We’re also working closely with InfraDAO to streamline the onboarding and documentation process for these new chains, ensuring a smooth and efficient integration pathway.

Introducing new data services

There is a world of data services coming to The Graph. We plan to assist by providing Firehose and Substreams services, along with long-term data storage of blobs, the Geo data service, and more. These new services simplify blockchain data processing and analysis, empowering developers to create more efficient applications.

We plan to support more chains and enhance the speed and reliability of our Firehose and Substreams services. By talking to our customers and understanding their experiences, we’ll identify areas where our services need to improve.

Testing new data services

One of the ways we’re supporting new data services on The Graph is by piloting some of these technologies. We test them and provide feedback to core developer teams, including ourselves, to make adoption smoother later on.

An example of this approach is a file-hosting service we’re testing with Messari. This service aims to streamline access to Substreams outputs. Builders will be able to download these outputs in various file formats, rather than having to run Substreams themselves. The goal is to enhance the user experience by simplifying access to essential data.

We’re also offering early access to our Firehose and Substreams services (free for a limited time) through the Pinax app. This allows us to understand the market and demand for these services, which will help The Graph align with customer needs when Firehose and Substreams are launched as data services on the network.

Supporting the sunrise of decentralized data on The Graph

Pinax is a key facilitator in The Graph’s evolution toward a decentralized network, concentrating efforts on ensuring our indexer is optimized for the migration of subgraphs from the hosted service. We offer support and expertise to fellow indexers and developers, showing our commitment to the community’s advancement. We’re dedicated to working toward a fully decentralized network and helping with the transition.

Currently, we’re offering RPC endpoints for Ethereum (ETH), Binance Smart Chain (BNB), Polygon (MATIC), and their testnets. We plan to add more blockchains soon. This will help indexers to more easily index those subgraphs as they’re migrated to the decentralized network. We’ll collaborate with the indexer community, along with the upgrade indexer, to ensure all the subgraphs currently on the hosted service are indexed on the decentralized network.

Providing RPC endpoints completes our package for indexers and is in response to customers who prefer to have a comprehensive suite of tools from the same place—a one-stop shop for RPC, Firehose, and Substreams.

Providing educational support

We believe that providing educational material for beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels will help grow and enrich The Graph and web3 developer ecosystem. By creating practical documents, tutorials, and resources, we want to lower the barrier to entry and foster a knowledgeable and skilled community.

We’ll continue producing:

We’re currently collaborating with InfraDAO, BuildersDAO, and AdvocatesDAO to plan and create educational content. This partnership has the potential to create a clear path for people to become effective participants in The Graph, whether they are consumers, builders, service providers, or supporters.

      Hey Paulie, can’t agree more!

2024 is shaping up to be a monumental year indeed, just by looking at this first quarter. As someone in growth, what activates my noddle is witnessing the unfolding of decentralized data on The Graph but also in the real world.

Pinax’s dedication to supporting new chains (the roadmap is exciting), enhancing data services (the stuff with blobs), and empowering developers through educational resources (liek the substreams series and all of these articles) promises to revolutionize this whole sphere of web3 development. It’s fast paced, but Pinax keeps up just fine. Let’s unleash the full potential of decentralized tech!
