Pinax was in Shanghai to help The Graph take students through an on-chain data workshop.
TL;DR: Pinax helped The Graph present an on-chain data workshop at Fudan University during Shanghai Blockchain Week, introducing students to web3 and AI technologies. The event featured presentations on decentralized data architecture, on-chain data streams, and subgraph building, and included a hackathon.
Pinax was on campus with The Graph at Fudan University, introducing workshop participants to AI data services, on-chain data streams, and using subgraphs to access on-chain data.
A side event of Shanghai International Blockchain Week, the On-chain Data Workshop: Exploring the Prospects of Web3 and AI, was held on October 13, 2024. The event was hosted by the Fudan University Blockchain Association and The Graph to explore the technologies of on-chain data extraction and processing. Over 60 people registered, eager to explore the cutting-edge fields of web3 and AI.
The potential of blockchain data and AI
Participants gathered for an evening of insightful discussion and learning. The event kicked off with a brief introduction by Bright, the president of the Fudan University Blockchain Association.
Presentations began with Eleven from Pinax, who delivered “New Possibilities of Decentralized Data Architecture and Exploration of AI.” Eleven introduced The Graph as a core component of web3 development, explaining its role as a global open API that encompasses indexers, delegators, curators, and subgraphs within its ecosystem. He shared the development journey of The Graph and the roles of its seven core contributor teams, concluding with a discussion on AI data services based on The Graph.
Then Lena from Pinax presented on “Utilizing Firehose and Substreams for On-Chain Data Streams.” As a member of The Graph’s core developer team, Lena elaborated on Pinax’s role and introduced four key services: Datasets, Firehose, Substreams, and RPC for Indexers. She also provided foundational insights into the workings of Firehose and Substreams.
Next, Jerry from The Graph led a hands-on workshop focused on using a subgraph to access on-chain data. He guided participants through the technologies essential for the hackathon and demonstrated how to build a subgraph. This practical segment not only deepened participants’ understanding of theoretical concepts but also offered valuable hands-on experience.
Lively Q&A + networking
The event wrapped up with an engaging Q&A session, where participants actively posed questions and shared insights. This fostered a lively, interactive atmosphere among attendees. Throughout the event, the Graph provided participants with refreshments and pizza, enhancing the opportunities for networking and discussion.
Hackathon results
Hackathon participants needed to meet the following requirements:
- Best use of subgraph: Query a new or existing subgraph on Graph Explorer or hosted service using the public query URL from the subgraph dashboard.
OR
- Best use of Substreams: Use a new or existing Substreams to process and consume web3 data.
🥁 The winners:
- Best Subgraph Use Case Champion: Aaron
- Prize: 300 USDT
- Best Subgraph Use Case Runner-Up: Zhu Junjie
- Prize: 100 USDT
Until next time!
This workshop provided participants with valuable knowledge and practical experience while also creating a platform for networking and collaboration. With the continuous advancement of web3 and AI technologies, we look forward to more such events in the future, offering learning and growth opportunities for aspiring individuals.
